Hillingdon Theatres' volunteers offer vital support to the borough's performing arts community in return for...

  • gaining experience or to broadening skills
  • an introduction to Hillingdon's performing arts community
  • a sense of achievement and motivation
  • meeting friendly and interesting people
  • the chance to see some shows for free!

There are a variety of ways you can help...

Front of House Usher - Ages 16+. Our vital Front of House Team (FoH), welcome audiences inside, show them to their seats and keep them safe while the show takes place and sometimes sell programmes, merchandise or ice creams. They arrive ready, a full hour before a show starts and leave after the audience has left.  Training is given before every shift.

Bar - Ages 18+.  There's nothing like the buzz of a busy theatre bar.  Bar volunteers arrive an hour before a show starts and clear-up after the interval. They sell drinks and snacks during the incoming and interval and are careful about hygiene and the safety of others. Training is done by shadowing more experienced volunteers and staff.

Box Office - Ages 18+.  Hillingdon Theatres sell tickets online, supported by trained volunteers at the venue. They help customers in-person at events and, once ready to go alone, operate the booking system and take general enquiries with a calm and friendly manner.  To train you will shadow experienced volunteers and staff and approx. 2 shifts per month are required.

Wardrobe - Age 16+. Compass Theatre's 1st floor has a volunteer-run costume hire service, with 5 rooms packed full of theatrical wardrobe. Open by appointment to hirers on Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings, Compass Costumes are accessible only via a spiral staircase.

Puppet Club - Age 16+ (or younger with a parent or guardian) Make, operate and bringing characters to life through puppetry. The club meets at the Compass theatre most Saturdays, 2pm to 4pm.

Friends of Ickenham Hall - Raising funds for the Hall and Theatre, tending to the Hall's period gardens, the members and committee of the Friends of Ickenham Hall are vital for the continued use and enjoyment of this community space.
