Volunteering at Hillingdon's Theatres and Heritage

Bar volunteers arrive 1 hour before an event starts to set up, open the bar 45 minutes before the curtain goes up, and again for 15-20 minutes again at the interval. It gets very busy, very fast and there's a lot of clearing up, but with two behind the bar and a dishwasher out back, its a fun atmosphere to be in.

Bar volunteers are over 18, display good customer service skills and  Our bar volunteers are over 18, have good communication skills, a friendly and approachable manner, are careful about hygiene, safety - and remain calm under pressure. the Box Office 

Hillingdon Box Office at Compass Theatre is operated by volunteers who take ticket bookings by phone and in-person, Tuesday to Saturday; 10.30am to 1.45pm / 1.45pm to 5pm.   They also operate on show shifts at Compass Theatre and other venues in the borough. Full training on the booking system and Data Protection is provided before volunteers can operate alone, taking bookings and general enquiries.

Box office volunteers are over 18, have good communication skills, a friendly and approachable manner, remain calm under pressure and offer their time for at least one shift per month. the Battle of Britain Bunker 

Volunteers join staff in welcoming people into the visitor centre and Battle of Britain Bunker in Uxbridge. the Manor Farm in Ruislip

Volunteers welcome people into the heritage visitor centre, downstairs at the Manor Farm House in Ruislip. Ickeham Hall Gardens

The Friends of Ickenham Hall keep the Georgian gardens at Compass Theatre looking beautiful, comprising a walled garden, lawns and surrounding borders, borders outside and to the side of the wall and around the back of the Compass Foyer.  These need care and attention to detail, regular weeding and in the dry months regular watering.

...Ushering an audience

Ushers are the welcoming face of theatres, vital for checking tickets, showing the audience to their seats and - in an emergency, assisting the Duty Manager evacuate the venue. Training is provided before every shift so ushers can volunteer as often as suits. Shifts begin 1 hour before a show starts and ends once the audience has left the auditorium. Our ushers are over 16, have good communication skills, a friendly, approachable manner and remain calm under pressure. the Wardrobe

Compass Theatre's 1st floor has a volunteer-run wardrobe department with over 3000 items for hire. They usually open on Wednesdays (8pm to 10pm) during term-time. Access is only via a spiral staircase and our volunteers need good customer service skills, lots of patience and a friendly manner.
